Who we serve?
Mental Health Outpatient Programs serve the following adults in Northwestern Ontario
- Are over the age of 16
- Have serious mental health problems, which may include one or more of the following:
- Mood disorders such as Depression and Bipolar Affective Disorder;
- Anxiety Disorders such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder;
- Psychotic Disorders such as Schizophrenia, Delusional Disorder, Schizo-Affective Disorder, and Psychosis not otherwise specified;
- Personality Disorders or
- Dual Diagnosis (Developmental Delay and Mental Illness)
- Have an identified need for one or more of the following:
- Psychiatric assessment, consultation or medication review
- Comprehensive assessment or treatment provided by various disciplines
- Are willing and able to engage in treatment and attend appointments
- Clients in active receipt of Workplace Safety & Insurance Board, Long Term Disability or private insurance will be considered for admission into the program on an individual basis.
Exclusions
- Emergency services should be obtained at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre (TBRHSC)
- Third party assessments (i.e. independent medico-legal examinations)
- Intensive case management is required
- Referral primarily for marital counseling
- Clients or their substitute decision makers are not willing to provide consent to treatment
Discharge
- Has successfully completed their assessment and/or treatment
- Is no longer accepting of services
- Client or his/her substitute decision- maker is no longer willing to consent to treatment
- No longer lives in the catchment area and is unable to attend for treatment
- Non-compliance with assessment/treatment, non-attendance or no contact with client over an extended time period
- Violent, aggressive behaviour, or behaviour of a threatening or intimidating nature, including physical acts of aggression towards people or property
- Repetitive behaviour that interferes with treatment/therapy
- Transfer of client care to another agency, treatment program or physician
- Incarcerated in a municipal or provincial jail and unable to attend for treatment
