Answers

1. How long is the wait to get an apartment?

This depends on what size apartment is selected - the wait is longer for the larger units - the 1 bedroom and also the large 1 bedroom and two bedroom. Currently the wait for a 1 bedroom is 6-8 years and it is longer for the large 1 bedroom and two bedroom. The wait time for a bachelor is currently about 2 years and for the bedsit is about 1 year. These are approximate times as we can never predict move outs.

2. Will I get in faster if I have a doctor's note?

The market wait list is totally chronological - the date of application is the only criteria we use. The DSSAB (for the RGI units only) is chronological also but they do have exceptions to this list where a doctor's note may move you up on the wait list. You would have to contact them to see what they are. Their number is 807.766.2112.

3. Do I have to take support services?

No - about half the tenants in the building live totally independent with no support services. But it is here should you need it in the future.

4. My spouse lives in Bethammi - what can you do to help me?

Persons who have a spouse in Bethammi are automatically put at the top of the wait list for a bachelor unit and would be offered the next available bachelor unit.

5. Can I move from one size apartment to another size or location?

No - the application asks you to pick one size unit only. It is assumed that the choice you make is the appropriate choice and transfers to another unit rarely happen - you can ask the housing manager for information on this.

6. When I can no longer live independently, will I be able to move to Bethammi?

All long term care applications are handled by the Northwestern Community Care Access Centre. While they will take into account your preference for Bethami, it is not automatic that you would get a unit there.
