Trained Instructors
The Frank Murphy Community Centre pool boasts the warmest water (and staff) in town. Measuring 55 by 20 ft., the pool is accessible by stairs and lift, allowing virtually anyone to enjoy the benefits of the various programs. With an average temperature of 31 °C (88 °F), you can swim and partake in fitness activities in comfort. The whirlpool's temperature is 39 °C (102 °F) and is also accessible by stairs or lift. Showers and lockers are available in both ladies' and men's change rooms, with a co-ed sauna conveniently located nearby. A co-ed change room is offered to clients with a caregiver.

Fitness Program

Aqua Aerobics
is a moderate to advanced class combining deep and shallow water aerobics, muscle toning, and stretching.

Silver Splash
is a moderate aerobic and low impact workout for the health-conscious older adult. Total body muscle toning and stretches to increase joint mobility are included in the program.

Full Figure Fitness
is for those who would like to experience the freedom of an aquatic, weightless, cool workout. Build stronger muscles and cardiovascular endurance. This is an excellent conditioning program combining deep and shallow aerobic exercises.

Arthritis Management
This very gentle program of exercise and stretching in warm water helps to alleviate pain and restores function to joints. Supported by the Arthritis Society, this activity is beneficial for all types of arthritis.

Tai Chi for Health
Tai Chi for Health and Taiji Qigong: 6 Forms for Health Combined Program. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art that is practiced throughout the world for its proven health benefits. Qigong, a form of meditative disciplined breathing from traditional Chinese medicine, is also known for its proven health benefits. Classes are open to anyone interested in improving their health and flexibility.

Water Walk
A safe, gentle, low-impact program designed to increase mobility of hips, knees and back, etc. Low level aerobic workout with muscle toning and stretching components combined for an excellent reconditioning program.

Aquatic Recovery
This independent training program is designed to meet the specific needs of persons suffering from stroke, multiple sclerosis and orthopaedic injuries. Develop basic walking, stretching and balance skills. Water is an excellent environment for pain reduction and improved joint mobility. A caregiver may be required to assist the participant.

Lifesaving Society Programs


Students ready for class

Parents and Tots
is designed for infants (3 months+) and toddlers, accompanied by their parent or caregiver. This fun-filled program uses songs and games to encourage water positive attitudes and skills.

Preschool
is for children aged 3 to 5 years. Students of this program can progress through the five levels at their own rate while acquiring and developing a foundation of water skills.

Swimmer
is for children 6 years and older. This six step program stresses lots of in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills.

Adult Swimmer
is for teaching adults and adolescents over 16 years. The focus is on learning to swim, or improving current swimming ability and fitness.

Patrol and Bronze Programs, and Aquatic Leadership
are Lifesaving Society programs for those who wish to develop basic knowledge and skills required to treat aquatic emergencies, supervision of pools, swimming skills and activating EMS. Call the registration desk at 768-4420 for details.
