Multidisciplinary Health Care Assessments (MDHCA)

The MDHCA provides the WSIB with timely information about a Worker's diagnosis, prognosis, need for further treatment, and ability to return to work or resume a regular routine.

What does an MDHCA assessment include?

The assessment team, consisting of a physician specialist and a physiotherapist or a chiropractor, will review pertinent medical history, treatment to date, and conduct a physical examination which includes evaluation of the Worker's range of motion, strength, and neurological state. Both examiners discuss their findings and also review assessment results with the Worker undergoing evaluation.

When will someone be seen for assessment and when will the report be completed?

Appointments with assessment teams are scheduled within 10 working days of a referral, with a comprehensive report completed within 10 working days of the examination.
